How to Prevent Thermal Runaway in Lithium Ion Batteries

Lithium Ion batteries have revolutionized our lives and, today are being used in almost all electronics due to their high-energy density, specifically in energy storage facilities. As they’re becoming more economical, data centers are being designed and converted to Lithium ion batteries. But recent battery explosions have demonstrated how dangerous they can be.

This webinar will explain the four stages of battery failure and how to prevent a thermal runaway with proper “Advanced Detection” at the appropriate stage of failure. It will also address why conventional gas detection will not prevent thermal runaway and address best design and layout practices as well as sequence of operation. Lithium Ion batteries are safe once they’re understood!

William Sudah, ME, MBA, Xtralis

William Sudah is a Mechanical Engineer with Masters in Business Administration. He lives in South Florida and currently working for Xtralis.  He has over 14 years of experience in gas detection, and he helps engineers with gas detection design and layout as well as sequence of operation. William is also a principal member with NFPA 88A and has been invited on numerous occasions to present to Fire Marshalls on safety and design requirements and continues to offer his support to this date.
